MENU THE ARTS SOCIETY NORTH EAST ESSEX

Lectures

The North East Essex lecture programme comprises ten lectures a year.  These are held on the third Thursday of the month and begin at 11am, September to March, and at 7.30pm, April to June.  Coffee is available in the mornings and the bar is open before evening lectures.  Lectures cover the decorative and fine arts, and a diverse range of arts and cultural subjects.  They are presented by lecturers who are experts in their field and last for approximately one hour.  There is usually an opportunity to ask questions at the end.

Visits

We arrange several visits to places of artistic interest during the course of the year.  Booking forms may be downloaded from the Visits page when they become available.

Days of Special Interest

These are held twice a year, in spring and autumn, at the Headgate Theatre in Colchester, and offer members the chance to meet and explore subjects in greater detail than is possible within a normal lecture.  We begin at 10am and end at 1.30pm.  The day is led by a guest lecturer, who will give two lectures on a chosen topic.  There is opportunity for discussion and it is sometimes possible to examine artefacts at close range.  No prior knowledge of the topic is required.  Coffee and a pastry are included in the cost.

BOOKING POLICY FOR VISITS AND DAYS OF SPECIAL INTEREST

Booking usually opens two months before the event.  The first two weeks of a booking period only members will be able to book a place.  After this booking will be open to people on our waiting list and guests.
